Tips for Choosing a Coat for the End of Year Holidays in a Winter Country

JAKARTA - Are you planning to spend the end of the year holidays in a country with winter? If so, then the coat or winter coat that will be worn during the holidays must be taken care of well.

This must be done because choosing the wrong winter coat can cause health problems in your back. This can happen because it is related to the weight of the coat which may not be suitable for body weight.

"The weight of the coat can change the biomechanics of your body, such as how weighted military gear or vests affect posture," Dr. Sherry McAllister, quoted by Huffpost, said on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

If the coat is worn for a long time, the body can shift its neutral position, which ends up pushing the head forward and reducing the natural curve of the neck.

"This forward head posture can dramatically increase the load on the spine," he explained.

"Your upper back and neck have to work harder just to keep you upright, and that extra tension can translate into pain at the end of the day," he adds.

Therefore, it is important to pay attention to the details of the materials used to make the coat and the comfort of wearing it before deciding to buy it. Sherry suggests choosing a coat that helps reduce excess weight and tension on the body.

"Look for fabrics with a little stretch or elasticity to support the natural range of motion," he said.

It is recommended to choose a winter coat made from light materials, but still effectively provide warmth to the body.

"Choose lightweight and breathable materials that still provide warmth, such as a blend of nylon-spandex or merino wool," Sherry concluded.
