Vulnerable to Flooding and Landslides, KAI Performs Mitigation at 131 Points
JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has identified 131 points in the Java region that are prone to flooding and landslides during the Christmas and New Year 2026 period.
President Director (Dirut) of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Bobby Rasyidin said his party had identified a number of points, especially in the Daop IV Semarang area which was prone to flooding. The flood-prone areas that must be watched out for are Pekalongan, Pemalang Grobogan, Cepu to Semarang City.
"We have identified these vulnerable points and have also mitigated them. Especially in Daop IV, in the Central Java area, there are several points that we have improved," he told the media, Thursday, December 18.
He emphasized that areas such as KM 2 in the Kaligawe area, which is flooded every year, have had the rail raised by 30 cm.
"So the conclusion is that we have identified the points, we have mitigated them and we have also improved them," he explained.
Previously, PT Kereta Api Indonesia Daerah Operasi (Daop) 4 Semarang had mapped 20 flood-prone points as an anticipation of the start of the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year transportation.
"In general, the condition is safe and under control. We have prepared steps to anticipate if there is a flood with the same characteristics as last year," said the Head of KAI Daop 4 Semarang Suharjonousai leading the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 Transportation Readiness Alert at the Tawang Semarang Station, Thursday, December 18.
Meanwhile, in the Semarang area, the anticipation is focused around Alastua and the route to Semarang Tawang Station at KM 2, which was flooded last year.
"At this location we have raised the track to a height of 40 centimeters. With this effort, we are optimistic that train operations will remain safe even though there is flooding as before," he said.
In addition, he said, his party has prepared various programs to ensure the safety, security, and comfort of passengers during the year-end holiday period.
Starting from the repair of station facilities, checking the railway track line, anticipating potential disasters, to the ticket discount program.
