Police Investigate Application Used by Eagle Eyes to Find Targets
JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya is investigating the creator of an application used by debt collectors to find their targets.
Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Budi Hermanto, explained that the application had contained consumer data that should be confidential.
He said, the Polda Metro Jaya is still investigating the truth of the information regarding the application, including whether there are consumer data in it. Therefore, his party has not been able to provide more responses regarding the matel application that is circulating on social media.
"It is still being investigated by investigators. Is it true that there is a matel application for the data that comes out. If there is data, it means that there is protection for consumer data," he told the media at the Polda Metro Jaya, South Jakarta, Thursday, December 18, 2025.
Budi emphasized that if it is proven that there is a leak or dissemination of consumer data, then it has the potential to violate criminal law. Considering that consumer data is protected information and should not be misused. This is in accordance with Law Number 27 of 2022 concerning the Protection of Personal Data (PDP Law).
"This consumer data must be investigated, and there must be a criminal provision," he said.
In addition, Budi also emphasized that customer data from banks and financing or leasing companies should not be distributed or traded to any party, including to hawks.
he ensured that the Metro Jaya Police would follow up on the findings to ensure that there were no violations of the law, especially those related to the protection of personal data and customer confidentiality.
"It's not allowed (to be spread). The bank clearly has confidential data on customers. It should not be spread," he said.
It is known that the existence of eagle eyes (matel) or debt collectors in Jakarta has once again attracted attention after two matel were killed by a number of police officers in Kalibata, South Jakarta, Friday, December 12, 2025.
