iPhone Fold Leak: When Opened, It Has a Size Similar to iPad mini, Wider than Expected
JAKARTA - iPhone Fold, a folding device that has long been rumored to enter the Apple ecosystem, has again emerged with new leaks. This time, the CAD file-based render image circulating shows a design that is much wider than the initial estimate, even approaching the size of the iPad mini when the device is fully opened.
The render, which is claimed to come from a technical drawing for an accessories manufacturer and published by iPhone-Ticker.de, shows the iPhone Fold in both open and closed conditions. In the open condition, the device looks more like a pocketbook than the two iPhones put together, as previous rumors have suggested.
Based on the scheme, each side of the iPhone Fold has a width of around 83.8 mm and a height of 120.6 mm. This figure makes it feel shorter but wider than a conventional iPhone. For comparison, the iPhone Air is said to only have a width of around 2.94 inches and a height of 6.15 inches. When folded, there is a hinge section of around 1.8 mm thick that protrudes slightly on the side of the device.
The external screen on the iPhone Fold is rumored to be 5.49 inches in size with a resolution of 2,088 x 1,422 pixels, in line with previous rumors about an outer screen of 5.5 inches. This different screen ratio reinforces the impression that Apple is not just "folding an iPhone", but designing a new format from the start.
The main attraction comes when the device is fully opened. The internal screen is said to be around 7.76 inches, just slightly smaller than the 8.3-inch iPad mini. The resolution is also claimed to reach 2,713 x 1,920 pixels, higher than the resolution of the current generation iPad mini. If this leak is accurate, Apple seems to want to make the iPhone Fold a bridge between the iPhone and iPad, both in terms of size and screen ratio.
This approach explains why the iPhone Fold design looks a bit "fat" when folded. Instead of pursuing extreme slim shapes, Apple is said to prioritize the internal screen experience to be closer to a tablet, not just a regular folding phone.
As for thickness, the CAD file shows the iPhone Fold body is 9.6 mm thick when folded, excluding the camera protrusion. In the open state, the thickness is claimed to be only 4.8 mm. This difference is likely related to the hinge design, which is said to be designed to reduce pressure on the screen and minimize the risk of folding or creasing, a classic problem on foldable devices.
The camera design also caught attention. The render shows an iPhone Air-style “camera plateau”, but with two rear cameras, not one. This is in contrast to a number of previous rumors that said the first generation iPhone Fold would only be equipped with one camera.
In addition, there are two front cameras, one on the outer screen and one on the inner screen, with the position of the internal camera slightly to the side. Whether this will be in the form of a Dynamic Island or a new solution, it is still unclear.
Although it looks quite detailed, this leak still needs to be treated with caution. Apple is known to be very strict in limiting information to accessory manufacturers, especially so far from the release schedule which is estimated to only occur at the end of 2026. This means that the final design can still change.
One thing is starting to feel clear: if this leak is close to reality, the iPhone Fold is not just an iPhone that can be folded. It seems to be positioned as a serious hybrid device, half a phone, half an iPad mini. If that's true, the wallet seems to already know what's going to happen.
