Victims of Rawan Disaster are Threatened by Calo, BP3MI Aceh Strengthens Migrant Training
BANDA ACEH - The Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Service (BP3MI) Aceh anticipates the potential for illegal departure of migrant workers after the flood and landslide disaster in Aceh.
One of them is by intensifying capacity-building training for prospective migrant workers, especially survivors.
Head of BP3MI Aceh Siti Rolijah said that the situation of this disaster is prone to be used by corruptors.
Post-disaster, there is always the potential for certain parties to take advantage of the difficult conditions of the community to offer migrant workers illegally.
This is considered a serious need to be anticipated by the government.
"We anticipate that there will be no parties who take advantage of the community's difficulties, especially in terms of difficulty in finding jobs, and then choose a shortcut to work abroad in a non-procedural manner," said Siti in Banda Aceh, Thursday, December 18.
According to him, BP3MI Aceh has proposed a special allocation for training for Acehnese people in 2026 as a preventive measure. A total of 1,000 people are planned to receive training facilities to increase the capacity of Indonesian migrant workers.
"I propose that 1,000 people who we allocate for Acehnese residents can receive training facilities for improving the capacity of Indonesian migrant workers," he said.
In addition, BP3MI Aceh will also conduct mapping together with the district/city human resources departments and village apparatus to minimize the continued risks faced by disaster victims.
"Don't let those who are victims of disasters, then become victims of humanity again in terms of human trafficking," said Siti.
He again reminded that working abroad illegally is very dangerous because it is outside the supervision of the state. As a result, the government cannot provide maximum protection.
"The danger is that the government cannot supervise in detail and completely. Therefore, we appeal to all to enter the Indonesian state employment placement system which is planned and according to procedure," he said.
Siti said that migrant workers who were not registered were at risk of being exploited, cheated, and becoming victims of human trafficking.
As a concrete step, BP3MI Aceh has inventoried about 120 residents who have previously received training and ensured their post-disaster conditions. In addition, his party also lists potential migrant workers affected by floods and earthquakes to be submitted for special attention from the Indonesian Ministry of Protection of Migrant Workers.
"We have officially written to the Minister to get attention, especially for migrant workers who have been processed and then affected by the flood," said Siti.
