BWF World Tour Finals 2025: Sabar/Reza Must Fight to the Death in the Last Match
JAKARTA - The men's doubles Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Mohammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani need to perform desperately to win in the last match of the BWF World Tour Finals 2025 group stage to get a semi-final ticket.
Sabar/Reza's fight to get a ticket to the semifinals had to be postponed after they suffered a loss against top seeds Kim Won-ho/Seo Seung-jae (South Korea) with a final score of 20-22 and 17-21 on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
"I'm grateful to be able to finish the match well, but the result was still not satisfactory. We have tried from the first and second games, we just haven't been able to get out of the pressure," said Reza in a statement.
This is the first defeat for Sabar/Reza from the two group matches they have gone through. Previously, on the first day, Wednesday, December 17, 2025, they managed to win over Man Wei Chong/Kai Wun Tee from Malaysia.
Sabar/Reza will then face Chiu Hsiang-chieh/Wang Chi-lin (China Taipei) in the last match of the group. They need to win in that match so that they can hold the semi-final ticket.
"Because tomorrow the possibility of winning who can enter the semifinals, so we have to perform desperately," said Reza.
Before Sabar/Reza, Putri Kusuma Wardani also suffered a defeat against Akane Yamaguchi. Moments later, An Se-young also won against Tomoka Miyazaki so that Putri was certain that she could not go to the semifinals.
The disappointing result was also obtained by the mixed doubles team of Jafar Hidayatullah/Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu. They were beaten by the third seed from Malaysia, Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei.
Indonesia has a total of five representatives in the tournament that closes the season. After this, there are still Jonatan Christie and Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri who are undergoing the second match in their group.
