NTT Weather Affected by 2 Cyclone Seeds, Potential for Increased Rain and Lightning
KUPANG - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that two tropical cyclone seeds were observed around the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province and had an impact on the potential for low to heavy rain in a number of areas.
Praktirawan Cuaca Stasiun Meteorologi Kelas II El Tari Kupang Isabela Restu Astuti said that the two cyclone seeds, Tropical Cyclone Seed 93S and Tropical Cyclone Seed 95S, are currently moving away from the NTT area.
"Two tropical cyclone seeds have been observed around the NTT region, namely Tropical Cyclone Seed 93S and Tropical Cyclone Seed 95S, both of which continue to move away from the NTT region," Isabela said in Kupang, Thursday, December 18.
In the next 24 to 72 hours, Tropical Cyclone 93S has a medium to high chance of developing into a tropical cyclone. Meanwhile, Tropical Cyclone 95S is still in the low chance category.
In addition to the influence of the two cyclone seeds, BMKG also detected areas of wind convergence and turning, as well as the active low atmospheric waves in the NTT region. This condition increases the potential for moderate to heavy rain, which may be accompanied by lightning or thunder and short-lived strong winds.
"Be aware of the effects of moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning or thunder and short-lived strong winds that can cause hydrometeorological disasters," he said.
BMKG noted on Thursday (18/12) that most areas in NTT had the potential to experience moderate to heavy rain accompanied by short-lived winds.
Meanwhile, on Friday (19/12), similar weather potential is expected to occur in West Manggarai Regency, East Manggarai, Ngada, Nagekeo, Ende, Sikka, East Flores, Lembata, Alor, Belu, Malaka, North Central Timor, South Central Timor, Kupang City, Kupang Regency, Sumba Island, Rote Ndao, and Sabu Raijua.
Meanwhile, on Saturday (20/12), moderate to heavy rain with lightning and short-lived strong winds are predicted to occur in East Manggarai Regency, Ngada, Nagekeo, Ende, Sikka, East Flores, Central Sumba, East Sumba, Belu, Malaka, North Central Timor, South Central Timor, Kupang City, and Kupang Regency.
However, BMKG ensures that there is no area in NTT that has the potential to experience widespread strong winds in the period of 18-20 December.
BMKG urges the public to remain vigilant but not panic, and continue to monitor the development of weather information through BMKG's 24-hour information service and the INFO BMKG application.
