Children of Flood Victims in Palembayan Agam Fight for Prabowo Salami

AGAM - The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, visited the Kayu Pasak Village, Palembayan, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, to directly review the survivors of the flash flood disaster, including children who are still in the evacuation location.

The President's presence was greeted enthusiastically by children who jostled to greet the Head of State.

President Prabowo also exchanged brief chats with them, asking about the education level of children who survived the flood, to the post-disaster conditions.

On that occasion, President Prabowo, accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya and members of the Indonesian House of Representatives as well as local community leaders Andre Rosiade, emphasized the government's commitment to be present and work for all disaster victims.

"You are not alone, we will work for everyone," the President told residents as reported by Antara, Thursday, December 18.

The flash flood in the region caused significant impacts in Agam Regency, which was recorded as the area with the highest number of victims, although the worst disaster also hit Aceh.

The President reviewed the trauma healing service tent which was set up around SD Negeri 05 Kayu Pasak. A number of health workers appeared to be on duty with medical equipment.

Prabowo also entered the classroom to see firsthand the condition of educational facilities affected by mud and puddles.

The President's visit was also accompanied by the Governor of West Sumatra, the Deputy Governor, and the Regent of Agam.

On the sidelines of the review, residents, including mothers, seemed to record the visit and spontaneously sang the Indonesian Raya song.

The Head of State also took the time to review the communal kitchen at the evacuation site. The President tasted fried rice prepared for the refugees and interacted with TNI personnel who were on duty in the field.

"This is fried rice. How do you know I haven't had breakfast yet," said the President while asking for a portion of rice as his breakfast menu.

The President's working visit to Palembayan took place in an orderly and conducive atmosphere, and was part of a series of reviews of flood disaster management in West Sumatra.
