Iko Uwais's TIMUR film carries authentic jungle warfare without much CGI
JAKARTA - International action actor, Iko Uwais, is back to hit the local film industry. Not only appearing as the main actor, Iko also marked his debut as a director through the action-drama film titled TIMUR. This film tells the true story of one of the most historic military operations in Indonesia, Operation Mapenduma.
In this film, Iko tries to shoot a hostage rescue mission in the interior of Papua with a realistic approach. He said, TIMUR not only presents combat action in extreme terrain, but also highlights the values of sacrifice, brotherhood, and humanity behind a high-risk mission.
"Unlike most fictional action films, TIMUR stands on a historical foundation. This film highlights the human side of military operations, where courage is not only measured by the strength of weapons, but by the loyalty of soldiers and the willingness to risk their lives to save others," said Iko when contacted, Thursday, December 18.
The actor whose name soared through The Raid and Mile 22 explained that his film depicts how special forces have to deal with harsh nature, logistical limitations, and intense psychological pressure. Honesty is the main point he wants to convey.
In line with Iko, Executive Producer of the film TIMUR, Yentonius Jerriel Ho, emphasized that this film carries the standard of international cinema without losing the identity of the nation. The man who is familiarly called Bang Aloy said that TIMUR is a tribute to historical events and the value of brotherhood.
"The film TIMUR is actually a tangible manifestation of the efforts and creativity of art workers, especially Indonesian filmmakers, in presenting the heroic story of their own people with international cinema standards, without losing the identity and authenticity of the story," said Yentonius.
This film is considered to be a new phase in Iko Uwais' creative journey. The authentic jungle warfare approach, the use of Papua backgrounds, and the physical action that minimizes the use of CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) are the main advantages of this film.
"With a calm and firm approach, TIMUR is positioned as a world-class patriotic film, not propaganda, but a reflection of courage and human values in extreme conditions," said Yentonius.
