BWF World Tour Finals 2025 Results: KW's Daughter Fails to Reach Semifinals

JAKARTA - Putri Kusuma Wardani suffered a defeat against former world number one, Akane Yamaguchi (Japan), in the second match of the BWF World Tour Finals 2025 group stage.

The Tangerang-born badminton player put up a fight when securing the first game before surrendering in the next two games which remained interesting.

Putri managed to force the match at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium to run for 65 minutes which ended with a score of 24-22, 19-21, and 13-21 on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

Putri's journey in the first game was actually mostly behind Yamaguchi after making a fierce match at the beginning. He then returned to chase at the end of the game and managed to overtake.

In the second game, although the score ended up being quite close, Putri only once tied the score at the first two points. After that, he continued to follow his opponent.

Putri had led 3-2 at the start of the third game, but after Yamaguchi managed to score three consecutive points, the situation immediately changed. Yamaguchi then went 11-6 and did not give Putri any room.

This is Putri Kusuma Wardani's second defeat in the group stage. She previously also forced world number one shuttler An Se-young to play three games in the first match which took place yesterday, December 17, 2025.

Putri is confirmed to not be able to continue her journey to the semifinals of the season-ending tournament. The certainty was obtained after An Se-young won two straight games over Tomoka Miyazaki in another match.

Tomoka Miyazaki will be Putri's last opponent in the group stage. However, the result of the match will not affect the fate of the 23-year-old badminton player.
