BI: Transactions through QRIS Tap Grow 1,200 Percent

Bank Indonesia (BI) stated that QRIS transactions without scanning or QRIS Tap recorded a growth of 1,200 percent on a monthly basis (month-to-month/mtm).

"QRIS Tap after the release of the tap in and tap out features in October last year, the transaction grew exponentially to 508 thousand transactions or grew 1,200 percent (mtm)," said Deputy Governor of BI Filianingsih Hendarta in a press conference for the BI Board of Governors Meeting (RDG) in December 2025 in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Thursday, December 18.

QRIS Tap has been implemented in the transportation sector in 14 provinces, including North Sumatra, South Sumatra, Riau, Banten, DKI Jakarta, West Java, DI Yogyakarta, Central Java, East Java, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi and Bali.

Currently, the QRIS Tap feature can only be used on devices with the Android system. BI plans to encourage the use of QRIS Tap on devices with the iOS system in the future.

"We will continue to encourage iOS, Apple, to also open its NFC so that iOS smartphones can also use the QRIS Tap feature," he said.

In general, the volume of QRIS transactions grew 143.64 percent year-on-year (yoy). This positive performance is supported by an increase in the number of users and merchants.

According to Filianingsih, the number of merchants using QRIS has reached 42 million merchants, surpassing the target of 40 million. Around 90 percent of this number comes from micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

In 2026, BI plans to carry out the concept of independence as one of the efforts to encourage the use of QRIS.

"This means that we are targeting QRIS transactions of 17 billion, the expansion of QRIS between countries to 8 countries, and 45 million merchants and 60 million users," he said.

Meanwhile, the projection of digital payment transactions next year is targeted at the level of 29.7 percent (yoy), supported by the expansion of the use of QRIS, technological innovation, strengthening of security aspects, and public trust.
