High Delay Potential During Nataru, InJourney Airports Ensure No Passenger Congestion
JAKARTA - Angkasa Pura Indonesia or InJourney Airports is preparing a number of mitigation steps to anticipate potential flight delays or delays during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 (Nataru) period, due to the limited number of aircraft fleets operating.
InJourney Airports President Director, Muhammad Rizal Pahlevi, said all airports managed by InJourney Airports have adequate capacity to accommodate passengers if there is a flight delay.
That way, he said, it can be ensured that there is no accumulation of passengers.
"I am confident that today's capacity, including Terminal 3 Soekarno-Hatta and other major airports, we have room to hold one to two flights of passengers at the same time. I make sure it is available," said Rizal in a press conference at Terminal 3 Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
From a total of 37 airports managed by InJourney Airports, continued Pahlevi, all of them have prepared buffer rooms that can be used when there is a delay.
Pahlevi said the utilization of the area was also supported by the presence of food and beverage outlets (F&B) and other supporting facilities.
Furthermore, Pahlevi said that if the delay lasted longer, InJourney Airports would coordinate with the airline to ensure that passenger handling ran optimally through the service recovery mechanism.
"If the delay continues, we work with the airline. As media friends know, if the plane is held for more than six hours, passengers are entitled to a mini stay or accommodation closest to the airport," he said.
In addition, Pahlevi said InJourney Airports airports also prepared a special area that was more comfortable for passengers who had to spend the night at the airport due to operational disruptions.
"We have a spot or area that can be more comfortable to serve passengers who are forced to spend the night at the airport. However, this cannot be done by the airport operator alone, but must be through collaboration with the airline," he explained.
Previously, the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) projected that the number of air passengers could reach 5,050,194 people during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 (Nataru) period.
The Secretary of the Directorate General of Air Transportation, Achmad Setiyo Prabowo, said that the passenger projection consisted of 3,899,176 domestic route passengers and 1,151,018 international route passengers.
"If in 2025, we predict an increase from 3.7 million to 3.8 million. Indeed, if we look at the numbers, our prediction is not a significant increase," he said in the Media Gathering of Angkasa Pura Indonesia, in Bogor, Thursday, December 11.
Even so, Setiyo admitted that he was optimistic that there would still be an increase in mobilization or an increase in passenger movement in that period.
Regarding the most crowded domestic routes, Setiyo continued, it occurred in Jakarta-Bali, Jakarta-Surabaya, and Jakarta-Ujung Pandang. Meanwhile, the international routes are Jakarta-Singapore, Jakarta-Kuala Lumpur, Denpasar-Kuala Lumpur and vice versa.
Furthermore, Setiyo said, the number of fleets targeted to be used to serve the Nataru transportation this time was 368 out of 568 units available.
"So indeed, the aircraft stock was many in several airlines. Now, only 568 units. But the serviceable is 368 units. Maintenance is 200 units," he said.
Therefore, said Setiyo, if there is a flight delay or delay due to weather factors due to technical constraints, the aircraft will be held so that it cannot rotate according to schedule.
As a result, the next flight schedule was also disrupted.
"So, for example, there is a delay due to weather, or due to technical operations, yes because the rotation of the aircraft is indeed somewhat reduced," he said.
