North Jakarta Satpol PP prohibits traders from selling dog meat dishes: "Pork is OK"
JAKARTA - A number of Manado-style restaurants that sell dog meat dishes in the Bamboo River area, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, were visited by Satpol PP officers on Wednesday, December 17.
Satpol PP officers came to carry out socialization of the new regional regulation regarding rabies animal control. Traders who previously sold dog meat dishes were asked to replace them with other menus in the future.
"This is a new regional regulation, so in the next six months, we will continue to socialize," said the Head of PP Kasatpol, Sungai Bambu Village, Asmawi.
He said the ban was an anticipation of preventing the transmission of rabies in his area.
"This 36-year-old regulation on rabies-transmitting animals, especially Article 27 a, is the prohibition of selling rabies-transmitting animals for consumption and trading," he said.
He said that after receiving socialization about the implementation of the latest regulation, traders were very happy because they were educated.
"They are business actors who are happy to be socialized about the new regulation," he said.
The restaurant owners agreed that in the future they would no longer sell dishes made from dog meat.
"They fill out the list and the letter has been given socialization," he said.
Later, after six months, if there are still violators, Asmawi will give a firm sanction.
"For the next six months, we will continue to socialize this new regulation, if it is over, there are still those who sell the meat will be given a warning, which can be in the form of closing their business," he said.
However, for other menus other than dog meat or animals that transmit rabies, he continued, it's not a problem.
"B2 (pork) is still allowed," he said.
