Manchester City Follows Up on Antoine Semenyo Amid Rp1.4 Trillion Clause
JAKARTA - Manchester City is monitoring the situation of Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo ahead of the January 2026 transfer window.
Launching ESPN, they are confident of facing competition to get his signature from a number of English League rivals.
Semenyo has a release clause in his contract at Bournemouth which allows the 25-year-old to move on for £65 million ($85 million) in the first two weeks of the January 2026 transfer window.
Manchester City are wary of such an opportunity, but club officials are confident there will be a queue of clubs waiting to activate the clause, including Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal.
Liverpool have been closely linked with Semenyo amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Mohamed Salah.
Tottenham and Manchester United both expressed an interest last summer. Arsenal have also been linked with the Ghanaian in the past.
Semenyo's transfer clause only applies to the first two weeks of the January 2026 transfer window to protect Bournemouth from late deals and prevent them from missing out on the chance to replace one of their key players.
If he remains at the Vitality Stadium in January 2026, the clause will come into effect again in the summer at a lower cost.
Semenyo enjoyed his best season at Bournemouth, scoring seven goals in 15 games.
He scored 11 goals in 37 games the previous year and eight goals in 33 games during the 2023/2024 season - his first full season at Bournemouth after arriving from Bristol City in January 2023.
Semenyo - who will not be heading to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after Ghana failed to qualify - scored his first goal since October 2025 in a 4-4 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
He was given a new contract in July 2025 which tied him to Bournemouth until 2025 although it is expected that he will leave in January 2026 or next summer.
