Indonesia Interested in Joining FIT Partnership, Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Exploring New Things
JAKARTA - Indonesia's interest in joining the Future of Investment and Trade (FIT) Partnership initiated by Singapore shows a desire to continue to work together, believe and want to explore new things with the Lion Country, said Economic Diplomacy Expert Staff of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zelda Wulan Kartika, Wednesday.
Bilateral relations between Indonesia and Singapore have been in place for 58 years. Zelda said that the two countries are actively engaged in relations in the fields of economy, investment, trade, and tourism.
Meanwhile, in the political field, relations between the two countries can be improved again, even though relations between the two countries are already very good.
"We have a very good relationship in the political field with Singapore. But, that trust must continue to be nurtured. If it is good now, then the next generation is expected to continue to maintain this relationship," he explained on the sidelines of the launch of the book "The Next Chapter: Envisioning the Future of Indonesia - Singapore Relations", in the Cikini area, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (17/12).
Furthermore, Zelda welcomed Indonesia's interest in joining the Future of Investment and Trade (FIT) Partnership initiated by Singapore. According to him, this interest is very positive, showing that Indonesia still wants to cooperate, believe and build further relations with Singapore.
"Although our relationship is very stable, there are also things that may not have been explored, so that they can be further explored," he explained.
"Although in the economic field it has become number one, we still hope for investment in Indonesia, trade relations and tourism are also getting better," he said.
Zelda also appreciated the increasing number of direct flights from Singapore to several regions in the country.
"Although it has been dominated by Bali, if I'm not mistaken, hopefully it can continue to other places in Indonesia, for example Labuan Baji, Sumatra and Sulawesi.
Previously, Coordinating Minister for the Economy of the Republic of Indonesia Airlangga Hartarto when meeting with Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan in November last year revealed the importance of strengthening cooperation through the Future of Investment and Trade (FIT) Partnership as an initiative that is able to encourage a more resilient and responsive regional economic architecture, launching a statement from the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy.
He said, Indonesia and Singapore see great opportunities to expand sustainable investment, especially in the green energy sector, digitization, to agro-industry, which are increasingly important in creating long-term added value, as well as supporting the economic transition of the region.
Launched online on September 16, 2025, the FIT Partnership now consists of Singapore, New Zealand, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, Iceland, Chile to Uruguay.
