Ahead of Nataru, 1.52 million new long-distance train tickets sold

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI recorded ticket sales during the 2025 Christmas and New Year 2026 (Nataru) Transportation reached more than 1.52 million from the capacity provided of 2.7 million during the year-end holiday period.

KAI has set the Nataru holiday period from December 18, 2025 to January 4, 2026.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said that the total capacity provided by KAI in the Nataru period reached 3,506,104 seats.

Comprised of long-distance and local trains.

Anne said that overall, the Nataru period train tickets that have been sold have reached 1,616,796 tickets or equivalent to 46.1 percent of the total 3,506,104 seats provided.

"The sale of long-distance train tickets was recorded at 1,525,876 tickets or 55.3 percent of the capacity of 2,761,048 seats. Meanwhile, the sale of local train tickets reached 90,920 tickets, equivalent to 12.2 percent of the total 745,056 seats," Anne said in an official statement, Wednesday, December 17.

Anne explained that the pattern of selling local trains has a different character.

New local train tickets are only available starting H-7 before departure, so the sales rate will gradually increase closer to the day of travel.

"KAI projects that the occupancy of local trains will continue to increase as the departure date approaches, following the habit of people's short-distance travel, which is generally planned within a short period of time," explained Anne.

Anne said the dominance of these stations reflects the high public interest in tourist cities, cultural centers, and favorite destinations for the year-end holidays such as Yogyakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and Semarang.

"KAI invites the public to plan their journey early and immediately purchase tickets through the Access by KAI application, so as to obtain the appropriate schedule, route, and service options during the Christmas and New Year period," he said.

Based on the temporary monitoring, the highest occupancy rate was recorded at 63.9 percent on H-11, namely Sunday, December 28, 2025.

The figure is estimated to still be moving up in line with the ongoing sales process.
