KAI Corporate Communication Vice President Anne Purba said that during the Nataru period, KAI also provided a 30 percent discount on fares which was valid from December 22, 2025 to January 10, 2026, with a total of 1,509,080 seats prepared for the program.
"As of December 17, 2025 at 08.00 WIB, discounted tickets that have been sold reached 652,310 tickets or 43 percent of the total capacity available for commercial economy trains," Anne said in an official statement, Wednesday, December 17.
Previously, Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi invited the public to take advantage of discounts on transportation fares during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year (Nataru) transportation period.
This policy is expected to reduce the cost burden of travel while helping to regulate the flow of mobility.
"We once again invite the public to make the most of this discount period, while still prioritizing safety and order during the journey," said Dudy in an official statement, Monday, December 15.
Dudy said the Nataru tariff discount policy was a direct follow-up to President Prabowo Subianto's direction to ease the burden of people's travel costs ahead of the year-end holidays.
Furthermore, Dudy said that the discount on transportation fares had been officially implemented since November 21, 2025. This implementation is intended to give the public a more mature, measured, and not focused on the peak period of holiday traffic.
"The President's instructions are clear, the state must be present to ensure that people's mobility remains affordable and runs smoothly during the year-end holidays. Therefore, our transportation fare discounts are applied early so that people can plan their trips better and not pile up at one time," he said.
"This discount policy is not only aimed at reducing the burden of travel costs," continued Budi, "but also an instrument for managing the flow of people's movement to be more even."
According to him, affordability of tariffs must go hand in hand with safe and orderly mobility arrangements.
"We want people to travel at a lower cost, but still be safe and comfortable. This tariff incentive is also part of the government's efforts to manage the Nataru flow so that there is no accumulation and services remain optimal," he said.
The incentive for discounts to support the equalization of travel flows during Nataru 2025/2026 includes a 30 percent discount for non-PSO trains with a travel period from December 22, 2025 to January 10, 2026.
In the maritime transportation sector, Pelni ship tariffs will receive a 20 percent discount for travel from December 17, 2025 to January 10, 2026.
Meanwhile, air tickets have a discount of around 13 to 14 percent with a purchase period from October 22, 2025 to January 10, 2026 and a flight period from December 22, 2025 to January 10, 2026.
The government also provides a discount on port services for crossing services.
