BTN Provides Credit Relaxation to 22,879 Customers Affected by Disasters in Sumatra

JAKARTA - BTN provides special credit relaxation to consumer credit customers affected by floods and landslides in several areas of Sumatra.

This policy is provided through a credit restructuring scheme that is adjusted to the level of the impact of disasters, in order to maintain the sustainability of the debtor's post-disaster payment ability while supporting economic recovery in affected areas.

"We are very concerned about the flood and landslide disasters that have occurred in Sumatra and have a direct impact on people's lives, including BTN consumer credit recipients. In situations like this, the most important thing is to ensure that people have space to recover without being burdened by excessive financial pressure," said BTN President Director Nixon LP Napitupulu through a press release received by the VOI editorial staff on Tuesday, December 16.

Credit relaxation is given as a form of BTN's support to consumer credit customers who are directly affected by disasters, while maintaining the principle of banking prudence.

Based on the results of mapping and classification of the level of damage, BTN recorded 22,879 consumer credit customers affected by floods and landslides spread across BTN offices in Banda Aceh (BSN), Medan, Padang, and Pematang Siantar, with a total value of consumer credit debit balances reaching IDR 1.93 trillion.

"The data on the number of affected customers will continue to move in line with the development of conditions in the field. Therefore, our credit relaxation is provided gradually and adaptively, according to the latest conditions in each affected region," said Nixon further.

The credit relaxation based on the level of disaster impact from BTN is as follows: 1. Light Impact Category, Grace Period Up to 6 Months. 2. Medium Impact Category, Grace Period Up to 9 Months. 3. Heavy Impact Category, Grace Period Up to 12 Months.

This restructuring policy is valid for three years from the date of its establishment on December 10, 2025, and can be extended as needed and based on the bank's evaluation results.

The credit relaxation was carried out based on the Financial Services Authority Regulation (POJK) Number 19 of 2022 concerning Special Treatment for Financial Service Institutions in Certain Regions and Sectors Affected by Disasters.

As part of the company's social concern, BTN has also distributed humanitarian assistance worth Rp8 billion to disaster-affected communities in the Sumatra region.

The assistance was distributed in the form of basic necessities, medicines, wearable clothes, and support for personnel and equipment to help the process of cleaning the flood-affected areas, in cooperation with the local government and related agencies.
