Bengkulu Police Stop Case of Child Killing Mother, the Perpetrator is Mental Disorder

Bengkulu - The Bengkulu City Police (Polresta) investigation team has stopped investigating the murder case of YT's mother (49) who was committed by her biological son, NR (18), which occurred in early August 2025 in Panorama Kelurahan, Bengkulu City.

The termination of the investigation was carried out because based on the results of the examination carried out in cooperation with the Soeprapto Special Mental Hospital (RSKJ), it was found that the perpetrator had a mental disorder so that the hospital and the Bengkulu City Social Service carried out further handling of NR.

"The alleged perpetrator has been secured and we will process it further. However, because the person concerned has a mental disorder, we will stop this case for the sake of the law," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Bengkulu Police, Kompol Sujud Alif Yulam Lam, through the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of Bengkulu Police, Ipda Revi Harisona, reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 17.

Currently, NR is still undergoing intensive treatment at RSKJ and will be fostered by the Bengkulu City Social Service and the murder case has been discontinued with the issuance of a Letter of Order to Stop the Investigation (SP3).

The termination of the case was determined after his party carried out the case together with the Public Prosecutor (JPU) and considered the results of the psychiatric medical examination of the suspect.

"For the suspect NR who is the perpetrator of Article 338 of the Criminal Code, we have carried out a series of investigations based on instructions from the public prosecutor. Because the condition of the person concerned is experiencing a mental disorder based on the results of a psychiatric examination, so this case in the police we stop for the sake of the law," explained Revi.

Previously, RSKJ Soeprapto Bengkulu confirmed that NR (18), the suspect in the murder of his biological mother YT (49) during the Dzuhur prayer (2/8/2025), had been undergoing treatment since 2023.

The suspect is also a recipient of the free health social security management agency (BPJS) program, so that the cost of treatment during his stay at the RSKJ Soeprapto was borne by the government, alias free of charge and the family was not charged any fees.

"It is true that the patient in us (Soeprapto Bengkulu RSKJ) and has been in and out several times to be treated at this hospital," said Nurma Yusma Dewi, a psychiatrist who treated the perpetrator at the Soeprapto Bengkulu RSKJ.

He explained that the suspect NR was repatriated from RSKJ Soeprapto on July 29, 2025 with the note that the condition of the person concerned was in good condition, calm, stable emotions and carried out daily activities independently.

When he returned home, his party also gave the perpetrator medicine while undergoing outpatient treatment at home for two weeks so that he could then carry out follow-up checks.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Unit (Reskrim) of the Bengkulu City Police (Polresta) has named NR (18) who is suspected of having a mental disorder after killing his biological mother, YT (49), while performing the Dzuhur prayer on Saturday (2/8/2025) as a suspect.
