Beware of the Circulation of Fake Fuel! Many Found in This Region

JAKARTA - The circulation of counterfeit spark plugs not only causes losses for manufacturers, but also vehicle owners because they reduce performance. This condition encourages Niterra Mobility Indonesia, a manufacturer of NGK spark plugs, to investigate to trace the network of counterfeit spark plug circulation in the country.

From the results of the search, the company found a number of areas that were vulnerable points for the distribution of counterfeit products. One of the areas with the largest findings was the Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) area.

"Until now we don't have very certain data, but we can say that Jabodetabek is still the largest area," said Niterra Mobility Indonesia's Legal Counsel, Ammar Singh Gill, in East Jakarta, Tuesday, December 16.

According to Ammar, the high population of two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles in Jakarta and its surroundings makes the area a very potential market for various automotive products, including counterfeit goods. This situation is used by irresponsible individuals to distribute counterfeit spark plugs.

However, the findings of fake spark plugs are not limited to Jabodetabek, Niterra also found indications of significant circulation in other regions. In the results of its investigation, many fake spark plugs were found in cities that have ports.

He added that fake spark plugs were also found in Surabaya, East Java, as well as a number of areas on the island of Sumatra. These areas are suspected to be the entry and distribution routes for counterfeit products to the domestic market.

Furthermore, Ammar revealed suspicions that the fake spark plugs were produced abroad, then repackaged in Indonesia using the NGK brand. This pattern makes the enforcement process more complicated and requires cross-party coordination.

As part of the enforcement action, Niterra together with related parties seized evidence from one of the large distributors of counterfeit spark plugs. The number of counterfeit spark plugs secured reached around 11 thousand units.

The destruction is a form of Niterra's seriousness in combating the circulation of counterfeit goods. Where, until now, it is still easy to find, both in roadside shops and through online sales platforms.
