Apple Ready to Release Seven iPhone Models per Year Starting in 2027, from iPhone Fold to iPhone 20

Jakarta - Apple is expected to make a major overhaul of the iPhone line in the next two years. Based on The Information's report, the Cupertino-based technology giant has the potential to release up to seven iPhone models every year by 2027, including a long-rumored folding screen device, the iPhone Fold.

Currently, Apple generally launches four main iPhone models each fall, with additional specific models in the spring. However, this strategy is said to change drastically as Apple diversifies its products and attempts to reach more market segments in a shorter time.

This move will expand the iPhone lineup beyond the standard and Pro models. With the presence of the iPhone Fold, a more affordable "e" version, to the Air line, Apple is projected to offer the most variety of iPhones in its history.

The first model expected to appear is the iPhone 17e in spring 2026. This device is said to carry a 6.1-inch screen with a 60Hz refresh rate, an A19 chip, and Apple's internal C1X modem. Unlike its predecessor, the iPhone 17e is rumored to have a glass back body that supports wireless charging.

Entering the fall of 2026, Apple is believed to release the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Both are said to bring variable aperture camera technology, allowing for a more natural depth of field effect without relying too much on computational processing.

The front camera is also rumored to move to the bottom of the screen, potentially ending the era of Dynamic Island. The A20 chip used is reportedly adopting a wafer-level multi-chip module technique, giving Apple more flexibility in CPU and GPU configurations.

In the same period, the iPhone Fold is said to be ready for debut. The device is rumored to have a 7.8-inch folding main screen and an outer screen of 5.5 inches with Retina-equivalent pixel density. The hinge is expected to use Liquidmetal material to minimize folds and increase durability.

Major changes have also been made to the release schedule. The standard version of the iPhone 18 is expected to no longer be launched in September, but rather shifted to the first half of 2027. Its mass production is said to be carried out first in India before China, marking a significant change in Apple's manufacturing strategy.

In the spring of 2027, Apple is also predicted to launch the iPhone 18e as the next generation of affordable models, as well as the iPhone Air 2. This second generation Air line is said to have a lightweight redesign, with the possibility of an additional second camera on the back, but still retains a 6.5-inch screen and a thin design.

The peak will come in the fall of 2027 with the launch of the iPhone 20, which is said to jump straight over the iPhone 19 naming. This model is projected to be the 20th anniversary edition of the iPhone, featuring a full-screen design with curved sides and a glass body completely without an external metal frame.

If this rumor comes true, Apple will not only change the way it releases iPhones, but also the way consumers view their product cycles. From one annual launch to almost all year, the iPhone seems ready to enter a new era: more varied, more aggressive, and obviously more crowded than ever.
