Coordination to Return the Body of Immigrants, Egypt-Greece Warns of the Dangers of Illegal Routes
JAKARTA - Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has instructed the Egyptian Embassy in Athens to increase coordination with Greek authorities to combat illegal immigration.
Quoting AN, Wednesday, December 17, this step is aimed at supporting survivors and speeding up the repatriation of the bodies of illegal immigrants.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) added that the embassy had contacted the families of the victims to arrange the transfer of the bodies of immigrants back to their home country.
While expressing condolences to the families of the victims, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs again warned citizens about the risks of illegal migration.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also warns Egyptians not to travel abroad through illegal channels because they are prone to human trafficking and violence.
Egypt has stepped up efforts to curb illegal migration based on a national strategy policy launched in 2016. Egyptian officials stressed that their country would not be used for illegal immigrant crossings.
Authorities say no migrant boats have set sail from the Egyptian coast since the strategy was introduced.
However, Egypt is home to nearly 10 million foreign nationals, including refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants from 133 countries.
