Rohamah from Lhokseumawe sentenced to 10 years in prison for selling young girls to Malaysia 

BANDA ACEH - The public prosecutor of the Banda Aceh District Attorney's Office has charged a middle-aged woman with human trafficking (TPPO), namely selling a 16-year-old girl to Malaysia, with a sentence of 10 years in prison.

The demands were read by Public Prosecutor (JPU) Luthfan Al-Kamil during the trial with a panel of judges headed by Zulkarnain at the Banda Aceh District Court in Banda Aceh, Wednesday, December 17.

The defendant on behalf of Rohamah, aged 56, a resident of Lhokseumawe, Aceh Province. The defendant attended the trial without being accompanied by a legal advisor. In addition to imprisonment, the JPU also demands the defendant to pay a fine of Rp. 200 million with a subsidy or substitute penalty if he does not pay for six months of imprisonment.

The JPU also demanded the defendant with an additional penalty in the form of an obligation to pay restitution of IDR 117.38 million. If the defendant does not pay restitution, he will be sentenced to six years in prison.

The defendant, said the JPU, was found guilty of committing the crime of sending children abroad in any way that resulted in the child being exploited.

"The defendant's actions violate Article 6 jo Article 10 of Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the eradication of human trafficking as the first alternative indictment is more subsidiary," said Luthfan Al-Kamil as quoted by Antara.

Based on the facts at the trial, the prosecutor stated that the defendant was involved in sending a woman who was still under the public out of the country. The daughter was exploited, so that the child suffered injuries or loss of reproductive function.

The victim, said the JPU, in October 2024 was taken by the defendant along with a number of other people who are now on the wanted list (DPO) to Malaysia from North Aceh Regency through Dumai, Riau Province.

In Malaysia, the defendant together with a woman took the victim to a hotel. At the hotel, the defendant handed the victim over to the hotel manager. The defendant and the woman received RM25 thousand.

"The victim was exploited and employed as a female entertainer. When leaving for Malaysia, the victim used someone else's identity," said JPU Luthfan Al-Kamil.

The panel of judges continued the trial in the week with the agenda of listening to the defendant's defense.

Rohamah was arrested by the Banda Aceh Police team at the Sultan Syarif Kasim II International Airport, Pekanbaru, on June 19, 2025 after previously being a fugitive. The defendant was at the airport to go to Malaysia.

The middle-aged woman was arrested for her involvement in human trafficking by selling a 16-year-old girl, a resident of Aceh Besar Regency. The victim was previously found to be a commercial sex worker in Malaysia in December 2024.
