Sudan's general ready to talk to Trump to end civil war

JAKARTA - Sudan's de facto leader, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, has expressed his readiness to work with US President Donald Trump to resolve the civil war that has torn his country apart.

The Sudanese foreign ministry announced this yesterday, after the head of the military visited Riyadh to meet with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. During his recent visit to Washington, the Crown Prince conveyed Sudan's peace plan to Trump.

In its statement, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry said Burhan appreciated the efforts of the Crown Prince and Trump.

"He reiterated Sudan's desire to work with President Trump, his foreign minister (Marco Rubio), and his envoy for peace in Sudan (Massad Boulos) to achieve this noble goal," the statement said, quoted by AFP, Wednesday, December 17.

International peace efforts led by mediators from the United States, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates have stalled since Burhan rejected Boulos's latest proposed peace framework.

RSF said it supported international ceasefires. However, fierce fighting continued, especially in southern Kordofan.

To date, no new agenda has been announced to resolve the civil war in Sudan, either under the US-led mediator or parallel efforts led by the UN.
