Understanding the Impossible Nature of the Messenger as the Foundation of True Faith

YOGYAKARTA - The impossible nature of the messengers is the characteristics that the messengers of Allah cannot possibly have, because it is against the perfection of their morals and noble duties in conveying the revelation.

Understanding this concept is very important for Muslims to have a straight faith and not be mistaken in assessing the position and role of the messenger in the teachings of Islam.

The Meaning of the Impossible Nature of the Messenger

As reported by VOI from the NU Online page, the impossible nature of the messenger is a nature that is impossible to reason and syariat in the hearts of Allah's messengers.

This impossibility is absolute because if these qualities exist in the messenger, then it will damage the trust in the truth of the revelation and the teachings they convey.

It is worth noting that the apostles were chosen and directly guarded by Allah to be messengers. Therefore, all reprehensible traits that have the potential to damage the mission of apostleship are declared impossible for them.

4 Impossible Qualities of the Messenger

Well, here are some impossible properties that the apostle does not have as opposed to his obligatory properties:

Kadzib (Berdusta)

The first impossible attribute for the messenger is kadzib, that is, lying. It is impossible for a messenger to lie, especially in conveying revelation and religious teachings. All the words and messages brought by the messengers are the truth that comes from Allah.

If the messenger lies, then the validity of the miracle that Allah gives will be questioned. The miracle itself is a form of God's justification for someone's prophethood.

Therefore, lying to the messenger is impossible because it would violate the wisdom of the gift of miracles itself.

Khianat (Unfaithful)

The second impossible attribute is treachery, that is, not trustworthy or not trustworthy. The apostles cannot commit treason in any form, whether in speech, deed, or inner attitude.

In addition, the Apostles are also protected from sinful acts that hurt their dignity. If a prophet betrays or commits a sin, then his people will be ordered to imitate the act, while Allah never commands sin.

Kitman (Hiding the Message)

Kitman means hiding or withholding a message that should be delivered to the people. This trait is impossible for the messenger to have because it is directly contrary to their main task as conveyors of revelation.

The apostles are obliged to convey all of God's teachings without being reduced or hidden. However, if the message is kept, then the purpose of the apostleship becomes invalid and humans will lose the guidance they should receive.

Baladah (Stupid or Weak Mind)

The last impossible attribute for the messenger is baladah, that is, stupid or weak mind. It is impossible for the messenger to have this trait because they are tasked to face various opponents of the dawah who have strong arguments.

The intelligence of the messenger is needed so that they are able to explain the truth, refute error, and guide the people to guidance. Ignorance will be contrary to the position of the messenger as a guide for mankind.

Every impossible attribute of the prophet above has an opposite in the form of a mandatory attribute. Kadzib is opposite to sidiq, treachery is opposite to trust, kitman is opposite to tabligh, and baladah is opposite to fathanah.

Thus, these various understandings help Muslims see the perfection of the personal prophet in its entirety.

Understanding the impossible nature of the messengers is an important part of faith in God's messengers. By understanding this, Muslims can maintain their faith, cultivate respect, and emulate the messengers with true faith.
