Jokowi: There Is No Tolerance For Budget Fraud, Especially In The Midst Of The COVID-19 Pandemic
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that supervision of the use of the budget must be tightened. He emphasized that the government will not tolerate misuse of the budget, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic like now.
"I will not tolerate any misappropriation of the budget. Especially at a time when we are like today, everything must be saved in the face of a pandemic," Jokowi said at the opening of the National Coordination Meeting for Government Internal Supervision which was broadcast on YouTube of the Presidential Secretariat, Thursday, May 27. .
During this pandemic, he continued, all the strength of the nation must be fought for in order to accelerate economic and health recovery. Thus, the role of supervision is very important so that all state objectives through budget spending can be guaranteed in an accountable, effective and efficient manner.
"Following the procedure is important but far more important is the achievement of the targets that have been set. Once again, this must be accountable, effective and efficient," he said.
The former governor of DKI Jakarta said that the public is currently waiting for the results of each budget the government spends. "What the people are waiting for is the result, what is waiting for is the benefit," he said.
So, Jokowi asked not to have a budget that was not properly monitored and could lead to abuse. "Especially until it was corrupted," he said.
Furthermore, he said the government had currently prepared a national economic recovery fund of up to Rp700 trillion. This fund, said Jokowi, must be realized quickly.
"This must be fast (realized, red) because we are chasing and (must, red) be on target. So that our economy can bounce back," he concluded.
