Minister of Industry Agus Emphasizes that Hajj-Umrah Pilgrims Can Get 2 Rewards if They Buy Domestic Products

JAKARTA - Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized that the organizers and pilgrims who use domestic products will add value to the worship.

According to Agus, they will get two rewards at once when shopping for their goods from domestic products.

"The first reward comes from the Hajj or Umrah itself. The second reward is because it protects the domestic industry, which means protecting Indonesian workers," said Agus in an official statement, Tuesday, December 16.

Agus said that the need for the implementation of Hajj and Umrah could actually be met by the national industry.

The products include halal food and beverages, medicines and health equipment, worship equipment, Muslim and modest fashion, luggage and travel bags, hotel equipment to various other consumer needs of the congregation.

The former Minister of Social Affairs assessed that the domestic industry already has adequate production capacity, quality and certification to enter the supply chain of Hajj and Umrah services.

"With the very large number of pilgrims every year, the Hajj and Umrah ecosystem has significant economic value. If these needs are supplied by domestic products, the benefits will return to the national economy, strengthen the industry as well as open and maintain jobs," he said.

The strengthening of the use of domestic products is in line with the positive performance of the national manufacturing industry as the main driver of the economy.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the non-oil and gas processing industry in the third quarter of 2025 grew by 5.58 percent (yoy), surpassing the national economic growth of 5.04 percent, with a contribution to GDP of 17.39 percent.

In addition, the performance of the Indonesian manufacturing industry has also received global recognition.

Based on data from the World Bank and United Nations Statistics, Indonesia's Manufacturing Value Added (MVA) in 2024 reached 265.07 billion US dollars.

This achievement places Indonesia in the 13th position in the world, 5th in Asia and the first in ASEAN.

Agus menilai, capaian tersebut mencerminkan kuatnya struktur industri nasional.

Therefore, the policy of Increasing the Use of Domestic Products (P3DN) continues to be strengthened as a strategic instrument to keep the added value within the country, strengthen the upstream-downstream industry linkages and improve the competitiveness of national manufacturing sustainably.

Until now, a total of 89,872 products from more than 15,900 companies have obtained the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) certification.

Studies show that every Rp1 spent on domestic products can have an economic impact of up to Rp2.2, which shows the magnitude of the multiplier effect for the national economy.

Through the 2025 Domestic Products Business Matching, the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) encourages the central and regional governments, SOEs as well as Hajj and Umrah organizers to prioritize domestic products in the procurement of goods and services. The activity is also a means of bringing together market needs with national industrial capacity to build sustainable business partnerships. "By strengthening the use of domestic products for Hajj and Umrah needs, we not only strengthen the national halal industry, but also ensure that the economic benefits are felt widely and sustainably," he concluded.
