Waskita Karya Develops Bali Shortcut Road Project Worth Rp290.8 Billion
JAKARTA - PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk again bagged a new contract on a strategic connectivity project.
This time, Waskita Karya will build the Geometric Improvement Road of the City of Singaraja-Mengwitani (Shortcut 9 and 10) Package I in Bali with a contract value of IDR 290.84 billion.
In this project, Waskita Karya will build a road with a length of 931.5 meters, as well as a bridge with a length of 593.5 meters.
The construction of roads and bridges is targeted to be completed by the end of 2027.
Director of Operations II of Waskita Karya Dhetik Ariyanto said the shortcut would connect the South Bali area as a major tourism center with North Bali, which has been hampered by access due to the winding road conditions.
"The geometric improvement of the Singaraja-Mengwitani City Limits Road serves to improve driving safety. This is because the road we repaired is designed to reduce the number of sharp turns and the degree of steepness," Dhetik said in an official statement, Tuesday, December 16.
In addition to improving safety aspects, he said the existence of this shortcut was also considered capable of optimizing travel time.
The project can cut the travel distance from 13.46 kilometers (km) to about 12.76 km at a number of points.
"The travel time from Denpasar to Singaraja can also be accelerated to about two hours. Previously, the journey could take three hours," he said.
Dhetik said that the increase in connectivity is expected to also encourage economic growth on the Island of the Gods, especially the tourism sector in the North Bali region, which has not been optimally developed.
"With easier and faster access, it is hoped that the number of tourists to North Bali can increase. In the end it will help the equalization of tourism development which has been focused on the South," he said.
Dhentik said that smooth access to roads also facilitates the distribution of agricultural products, local products, and other goods to the market. This condition is considered to reduce the cost of fuel and vehicle maintenance for logistics business actors. "The construction and repair of roads is one of the company's contributions to building the country and helping the government to improve people's lives. We believe that economic gaps between regions can be reduced through the development of connectivity projects in various regions," explained Dhetik.
