Janice Tjen Vomits before Stepping Down from the 2025 SEA Games
JAKARTA - Indonesia's mainstay tennis player, Janice Tjen, vomited before deciding to withdraw from the women's singles semifinals of the 2025 Thailand SEA Games.
Janice was plagued by health problems when playing the women's singles semifinal match against host representative Mananchaya Sawangkaew on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
Head coach of the Indonesian national tennis team, Frank van Fraayenhoven, said that after withdrawing in the women's singles, Janice still competed in the doubles with Aldila Sutjiadi.
"During the singles match, he vomited. Still feeling unwell, he still played doubles with Aldila (who also felt unwell) and managed to win," said Frank as quoted by Antara.

Janice retired after playing the first set against Mananchaya and lost 4-6 in the set. After taking a break, he also returned to the field to play doubles with Aldila.
They played against the pair of Eva Marie Cheng/Su Yan Tan from Singapore. Janice/Aldila managed to pack the victory even though they had to go through a rubber set which ended with a score of 6-1, 4-6, and 10-6.
Indonesian women's tennis coach Martin Setiawan revealed that Janice's health is not currently back in the best condition.
"Janice's condition is still a bit weak, but we and the medical team have prepared as much as possible to help Janice play the doubles semi-final tomorrow (December 17, 2025)," said Martin.
Even though she lost the opportunity to win the gold medal in the women's singles, Janice still has hope in the women's doubles with Aldila.
In the semifinals, Janice/Aldila will face the Philippines' pair, Aludo Stefi Marithe/Madis Tennielle, who eliminated the Thai representative, Patcharin Cheapchandej/Naklo Thasasporn.
Janice/Aldila previously also contributed to Indonesia's gold medal in the women's doubles sector. They beat Thailand in the final round to defend their title.
