Medan PN Judge Sentences 5 Life Imprisonment for 128 Kg of Marijuana Courier Defendants

MEDAN - A panel of judges at the Medan District Court, North Sumatra, sentenced five defendants to life imprisonment for marijuana-type narcotics couriers with a weight of 128 kilograms of evidence.

"To sentence the defendants to life imprisonment each," said Presiding Judge As'ad Rahim Lubis at the reading of the verdict at the Medan District Court, Tuesday, December 16, reported by ANTARA.

The five defendants, namely Dehya A Qaby alias Tibar, Samsudin alias Sudin bin Aminudin, and Ansarolah alias Fauzan, are all residents of Aceh.

Meanwhile, the other two defendants, namely Rinaldi alias Naldi are residents of Pantai Labu, and Rasudin Hasibuan alias Bang Udin is a resident of Nibung Street, Medan City.

"The actions of the defendants are proven to be legally and convincingly guilty of violating Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics," he said.

The panel of judges stated that the aggravating circumstances of the defendants' actions were not supporting the government's program in eradicating narcotics crimes. Meanwhile, no mitigating circumstances were found.

After reading the verdict, the judge gave the defendants and the Medan District Attorney's Office (JPU) seven days to express their attitude towards the verdict.

"The defendants and the public prosecutor are given seven days to accept the verdict or to appeal," said As'ad.

The verdict is lighter than the demand of the JPU Septian Napitupulu who previously asked the defendants to be sentenced to death.

The prosecutor of the Medan District Court, Rizqi Darmawan, explained in the indictment letter that the five defendants were arrested by personnel from the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) on Saturday, February 15, 2025, in the parking lot of the Maju Bersama Supermarket, Jalan Denai, Tegal Sari Mandala II Village, Medan Denai District, Medan City.

"This case started when the defendant Rasudin ordered 200 packs of marijuana to the defendant Dehya, but the defendant Dehya was only able to provide 100 packs or the equivalent of 128 kilograms," said Rizqi.

Furthermore, the defendant Dehya invited the defendants Ansarolah and Samsudin to bring the marijuana from Aceh to Medan City using a car.

Upon arrival in Medan, the three met the defendant Rasudin and the defendant Rinaldi at the location that had been agreed upon to carry out the transaction. However, before the delivery of the goods took place, BNN personnel came and arrested all the defendants.

"From the results of the search, officers found evidence of marijuana weighing 128 kilograms in the car used by the defendants," he said.
