Turkey Shoots Down Drone in Black Sea After 3 Cargo Ships Attacked by Russia
JAKARTA - The Turkish Ministry of Defense said that it had shot down a drone that approached its airspace in the Black Sea.
Citing Reuters, Tuesday, December 16, Turkish and NATO F-16 fighter jets were alerted to ensure the security of Turkish airspace after the drone was detected.
The ministry added that the drone was out of control and shot down in a safe area yesterday. However, it did not specify the type or origin of the drone.
This incident came after Turkey gave a stern warning regarding the potential escalation in the Black Sea following three Turkish cargo ships in Ukrainian ports being the victims of Russian attacks.
Meanwhile, the attack targeting the Ukrainian port occurred days after Russia threatened to "cut off Ukraine from the sea".
The threat came after Ukraine damaged three tankers of the 'shadow fleet' heading to Russia. The ship was said to have just exported Russian oil across the Black Sea.
