Governor Demul: Sumatra Disaster Becomes West Java Learning Commitment to Preserve
JAKARTA - West Java Governor (Jabar) Dedi Mulyadi (Demul) stated that the West Java Provincial Government (Pemprov) is committed to strengthening environmental conservation efforts through cross-sectoral collaboration by learning from previous natural disaster events in Sumatra.
He said that the similar natural characteristics between West Java and Sumatra were a warning for all parties to be more serious about maintaining environmental sustainability.
"Today, the West Java Provincial Government, Kodam III Siliwangi, West Java Police, plantation personnel, and Perhutani, have a commitment to maintain conservation. We learn from the disaster in Sumatra because the conditions are exactly like in West Java," said Dedi in Pangalengan, Tuesday, quoted by Antara.
Furthermore, he explained that the flood conditions that occurred in Bandung in the last few days had a different pattern compared to the floods that often occurred before.
Dedi Mulyadi emphasized the importance of maintaining the mountain slopes so that the Greater Bandung area can be spared from more severe flooding and landslides.
"We don't want it because yesterday there were signs. The flood in Bandung is already a little different. One of the causes is the empty slope," said the West Java Governor.

On this occasion, Dedi Mulyadi also asked residents who have been planting vegetable commodities on the mountain slopes to switch to hard plants as part of conservation efforts.
Dedi Mulyadi emphasized that the government would pay farmers so that the transition would not make them lose their source of livelihood.
"Later, the residents who have been working as vegetable workers, hoes, and pickers will be employed to plant trees or hard plants," said Dedi Mulyadi.
This conservation step, he continued, is expected to prevent flooding disasters and restore economic conditions in West Java.
