The uniqueness of the rattan weaving of Central Kalimantan is ready to go global

Central Kalimantan is known as one of the regions that produce quality rattan in Indonesia. This natural material has long been used by local craftsmen to produce various high-value art creations, ranging from bags, shoes, to accessories and household items.

Through the touch of modern design, the typical rattan weaving of Central Kalimantan is now not only a traditional product, but also has great potential to penetrate the national and international markets.

Chairman of the Reses Team of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Evita Nursanty, assessed that the rattan woven handicraft products produced by UMKM actors in Central Kalimantan have strong competitiveness in the global market. The assessment was delivered after his visit to one of the UMKM actors in Palangka Raya City, namely Indang Apang Gallery, which produces various handicrafts made from rattan.

Evita revealed that the works of Indang Apang Gallery showed the quality of work that was neat and international standard. The products produced were diverse, ranging from shoes, bags, to other accessories that were considered able to compete with similar products from abroad.

He emphasized the importance of the government's role, especially related ministries such as the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and the UMKM sector, to provide a wider marketing space for these local products. According to him, the presence of products in various exhibitions, both at home and abroad, is the key to making the work of craftsmen known to a wider market.

"Products that are already of good quality need to be balanced with adequate marketing access. Without it, the great potential possessed by MSMEs will not develop optimally. Therefore, government assistance, training, and marketing support are needed," he said.

Apart from marketing, Evita also highlights the importance of continuous assistance so that MSMEs continue to innovate and follow the development of trends. One step that can be taken is to collaborate with professional designers so that rattan weaving can be developed into high-value-added and premium-class products.

According to him, the main needs of MSMEs are not only in capital, but also in increasing human resource capacity through continuous training and coaching, so that the quality of local products can be increasingly recognized in the global arena.

Evita also assessed that the role of the mass media is very strategic in helping to introduce local products to the wider community. Consistent publication is believed to be able to increase the attractiveness and market confidence in regional MSME products.

With the support of various parties, he hopes that MSMEs in Central Kalimantan can continue to grow and make a real contribution to the growth of the region's creative economy. The aspirations conveyed by the MSMEs, said Evita, have been recorded and will be discussed further at the central level so that the sustainability and existence of local products remain maintained.
