Legislator Demands Perpetrators of Burning Imbas Matel Kalibata Kios to Be Punished as Well

Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Abdullah, appreciates the quick steps of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) which has named six police officers as suspects in the case of violence which resulted in the death of two eagle eyes (matel) or debt collectors in Kalibata, South Jakarta.

According to Abdullah, the determination of the suspect shows the commitment of the National Police in upholding the law objectively and transparently, including its own apparatus.

"This step should be appreciated because it shows that the law is enforced without discrimination. Whoever is proven guilty must be held accountable for their actions before the law," Abdullah told reporters, Tuesday, December 16.

Even so, Abdullah emphasized that law enforcement should not stop at one side of the case. He also asked law enforcement officials to thoroughly investigate the case of vandalism and burning kiosks in Kalibata which was allegedly carried out by the matel group.

"The destruction and burning of kiosks is a serious criminal act that disturbs the community. The perpetrators must be hunted down, arrested, and sentenced to commensurate punishment in accordance with applicable laws," he said.

Abdullah emphasized that the state should not give any room for violent and gangster practices. He said that all conflicts must be resolved legally, especially to the detriment of the community.

"There should be no premanism in Indonesia. All conflicts must be resolved through the legal system, not with violence that actually causes casualties and losses to the community," he said.

The legislator from the Central Java constituency also hopes that the National Police can handle the entire series of events in Kalibata comprehensively, fairly, and transparently.

"So that justice can really be felt by all parties and public confidence in law enforcement is maintained," concluded Abdullah.
