Snapchat Releases Annual 'Recap', Highlights Voice Call Increase and Reaction Usage

JAKARTA - Snapchat launched its annual feature, Snapchat Recap, for all users around the world. This feature will be displayed in the form of a video that is personalized with highlights of activities.

This feature will highlight users' habits in using the Snap, Stories, and Chat features throughout 2025. In line with this launch, Snap also announced the trends in using Snapchat in the past year.

One of the most prominent trends on Snapchat is the increase in conversations, both in the form of voice messages, voice calls, and videos. Globally, Snapchat users spend an average of almost 1.7 billion minutes talking every day.

This figure increased by almost 30 percent compared to the previous year. In addition, in the US alone, more than 5 billion voice messages have been sent throughout 2025. The increase in voice messages in the US was recorded at almost 10 percent from last year.

In addition, around 40 percent of Gen Z users on Snapchat share Snaps randomly or spontaneously as a signal of a desire to become closer friends. This spontaneous style of communication is considered cool and authentic.

Snapchat also recorded a sharp increase in the use of features that offer a way to add context, emotion, and humor. The use of Chat Reactions increased by 44 percent this year. The red heart symbol is the most popular reaction.

Visual formats such as stickers are also becoming more popular. More than three million people use stickers to communicate with their friends throughout the year. The reason is that stickers provide a more expressive way to convey feelings.

Group chats remain the center of all activity. The number of people sending messages to group chats increases by more than 5 percent by 2025. Some of the most active Snapchat users even send more than 8,880 messages to their top Group Chats throughout the year.
