IKT Semayang Balikpapan Operations Staff, Ahmad Efendi, said that every month, an average of more than 80 vessels are berthed at the Semayang Port, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan.
English:
He explained that of the number, around 60-70 ships were passenger roll-on-roll-off (Ro-Ro) ships, while the other 15-17 ships were Ro-Ro ships for vehicle and heavy equipment transportation.
English:
"In one month there are more than 80 ships, consisting of passenger ro-ro ships of around 60-70, special ro-ro vehicles and heavy equipment 15-17 ships," he said when met at the Semayang Port in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan (Kaltim), Monday, December 16.
English:
Efendi explained that each Ro-Ro ship carries an average of 200 to 300 units of cars, not including heavy equipment, which if combined, the total load can reach around 400 units per ship.
English:
English:
He added that for the unloading process of car-type vehicles, the service time per ship ranged from 10 to 12 hours.
English:
In addition, Efendi also added, the capacity of the vehicle accumulation area at the Balikpapan Semayang port is currently able to accommodate around 300 units of cars.
English:
However, he hopes that as the loading and unloading activities increase, it is still necessary to add a buffer area or buffer zone for parking and vehicle accumulation, especially when the traffic of cars and heavy equipment is dense.
English:
In addition, Efendi assessed that it was necessary to extend the pier, which currently has a length of around 490 meters, so that in the future the port can optimally serve more Ro-Ro ships.
English:
"The hope is that the buffer area capacity will be increased and the pier will be extended so that it can serve more ships simultaneously as operations increase," he said.
