Fruit Distribution Ahead of Christmas, Pramono Requests Completion of Kramat Jati Central Market Renovation in 5 Days

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung ordered his staff to renovate the C2 fruit stall at the Kramat Jati Central Market after the fire within a five-day deadline. This was conveyed when he directly reviewed the affected location that burned down hundreds of merchant stalls.

Pramono emphasized that post-fire handling must move quickly so that trading activities, especially the distribution of basic necessities ahead of Christmas and New Year, are not disrupted.

Because, according to Pramono, the Kramat Jati Central Market is considered to have a strategic role as a fruit distribution center in Jakarta with daily transaction turnover that can reach Rp. 100 million.

"From the results of the calculation, it is estimated that the fire loss will reach Rp. 10 billion. I ask that this handling be done quickly. A maximum of five days must be completed so as not to interfere with the supply and procurement of commodities, especially before Christmas and New Year. I believe that everything can be handled well," said Pramono, Tuesday, December 16.

Pramono said that the market building managed by Perumda Pasar Jaya had been insured. With this scheme, the renovation process will be carried out through the mechanism of an insurance company so that the work can be carried out quickly and measured.

"As stated by the President Director of Perumda Pasar Jaya, this area is insured. The next renovation will be handled through the insurance mechanism," he said.

To keep the wheels of the economy moving, the DKI Provincial Government has prepared a temporary shelter location for traders. The location is about 100 meters from the fire area and is prepared so that the buying and selling activities continue during the renovation process.

In addition to the physical recovery of the building, Pramono also highlighted the prevention aspect so that similar incidents do not recur. He emphasized the improvement of the electrical system, which is suspected to be the cause of the fire, as well as the addition of safety facilities in the market area.

"In the renovation, I ask that the aspect of preventing electrical short circuits be improved. For fire hydrants, an addition will be made because it is needed in this area," said Pramono.

Therefore, the DKI Provincial Government has involved Bank Jakarta to facilitate access to financing for traders affected by the fire.

As an emergency measure, the DKI Provincial Government also distributed cash assistance of Rp. 5 million to each of the 121 affected traders to maintain business continuity until the market has fully recovered.

"Traders are asking for credit facilities, some even apply for up to Rp500 million. I believe Bank Jakarta will meet because these are traders with clear turnover and loyal clients," concluded Pramono.

For information, the fire that occurred on Monday, December 15, affected 350 kiosks occupied by around 121 traders, with an affected area of 6,196 square meters. Based on initial calculations, the losses due to the event are estimated to reach Rp. 10 billion.
