Manchester United Considering Bringing Semenyo in January

JAKARTA - Manchester United has the financial ability and is considering recruiting Antoine Semenyo in January 2026.

Launching Teamtalk, the former favorite player of The Red Devils supports Ruben Amorim's team to beat other competitors, Liverpool and Manchester City.

The Bournemouth attacker has emerged as one of the most sought-after players ahead of the winter transfer window.

The release clause was revealed, namely worth 60 million pounds (about Rp1.3 trillion), with an additional 5 million pounds (about Rp111.5 billion), will be active in the first two weeks of January 2026.

With six goals and three assists already scored, Semenyo is being targeted by big clubs in the English League.

Teamtalk transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey has confirmed that the player has expressed his preference to join Liverpool - a claim that has been strengthened by speculation over Mohamed Salah's future.

Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have also positioned themselves in the competition, stating that they are ready to pay the player a high price.

However, Manchester United is also not a team that can be completely ignored in the competition. The Red Devils have the financial strength to activate his release clause in the winter transfer window.

They are even reported to be seriously considering the move as they compare the recruitment with a clearer need. The point is, Manchester United needs a new center forward.

Now the prospect of the 25-year-old moving to Old Trafford is stronger after claims from former Manchester United star Nani, who believes the former Bristol City player would thrive there rather than at Manchester City or Liverpool.

"Why not? I think all players who have the ability to move forward quickly, are able to dribble, are able to shoot, score goals, give assists, and have general creativity at that time will be suitable for Manchester United."

"That's the type of player the fans want to see. However, we know that when players come to Manchester United, it's really different."

"This is a different environment, different pressure, different mentality, different work, and then they have to adapt. I hope that if he gets Semenyo, he can come with his attitude, with this mentality, and he can deploy all his talents on the field and help the team," said Nani in an interview with Metro.

Amorim's Meeting with Semenyo Revealed

Manchester United see Semenyo as a player who has the profile to develop as a wing-back in Ruben Amorim's 3-4-2-1 system, doing the same on the other side as Amad Diallo on the right. Only, whether the role will be attractive to the player still has to be seen.

Journalist David Ornstein was the first to reveal Manchester United's interest in signing the Ghanaian in April 2025.

Since then, the Red Devils have really considered his recruitment this summer, but eventually preferred to bring in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, two players who the club thinks are more ready to develop under Amorim.

According to another transfer journalist, Duncan Castles, Amorim met Semenyo for dinner at a restaurant in London to discuss a potential move during the summer, before the player signed a contract extension at the Vitality Stadium.

"They used the same strategy as Cunha and Mbeumo, just as they agreed on personal terms with Semenyo before trying to agree on fees with Bournemouth."

"They even invited Amorim to dinner in London at the end of last season so that the Portuguese coach could assess his character. Again, a process similar to Cunha and Mbeumo," Castles said.

Manchester United's prospects of signing Semenyo ultimately fell through when he instead committed to Bournemouth although Castles also explained that Sir Jim Ratcliffe's willingness to only pay the player 70 per cent of the wages offered to Mbeumo and Cunha also scuppered the hoped-for deal.
