Google Starts Integrating NotebookLM into Gemini, Accessing Contextual AI More Concisely

JAKARTA - Google has started to launch a new way to use NotebookLM by integrating it directly into Gemini, its flagship AI chatbot. This integration allows users to attach notebooks as conversation contexts, without having to switch applications.

The feature was first spotted by Alexey Shabanov from TestingCatalog, who said NotebookLM is now appearing on Gemini in a limited way. This initial launch is suspected to have been carried out by Google since last weekend, after it was previously sniffed out in an APK teardown in November.

Through this integration, users can add notebooks directly from the attachment menu in Gemini. The notebook is then used as a source of information to answer questions or execute instructions, combining the power of NotebookLM with Gemini's latest reasoning model.

However, its availability is still very limited. Shabanov reported that this feature is only active in one out of five accounts he owns. Separate testing also showed that the NotebookLM option has not appeared on Gemini Pro accounts, indicating that the launch is still in its early stages and has not been evenly distributed.

Once active, users will see the NotebookLM option in the attachment menu. From there, the notebook can be selected and Gemini will process the conversation based on the contents of the document. Users can also return to the NotebookLM interface at any time via the Sources button, without interrupting the workflow.

For productive users, this step is quite significant. This integration eliminates friction between applications and allows for the use of Gemini's more advanced reasoning, while keeping document references close at hand. In short, research and analysis are faster, more tidy, and more contextual.

Google has not officially announced this integration. However, limited launch patterns like this are usually an early signal before the feature is rolled out widely. If this trend continues, NotebookLM has the potential to change from a separate tool to a core part of the Gemini experience. Google's AI is becoming more integrated, and the digital desktop feels a little smarter.
