BPBD East Java Installed Early Warning System in 6 Flood-Landslide-prone Areas

SURABAYA - East Java Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) officers have installed Early Warning System (EWS) equipment in six flood-prone and landslide-prone areas in the local province.

Kalaksa BPBD East Java Gatot Soebroto said the installation of EWS which was carried out during the last week was in collaboration with the BPBD team in the regency.

"The location and type of EWS installed are in the Bojonegoro Regency area (Flood EWS), Jombang Regency (Landslide EWS), Ponorogo (Flood EWS), Trenggalek (Landslide EWS), Probolinggo Regency (Landslide EWS), and Mojokerto City (Flood EWS)," he said. reported by ANTARA, Monday, December 15.

He said the installation of EWS in these six areas complements the dozens of EWS that have been installed by the East Java BPBD in previous years.

"Currently we have a board that can monitor the development of EWS in real time in a number of areas. With this board, we can know the potential for disaster threats in a number of areas in real time through signals that arise from EWS," said Gatot Soebroto.

Head of the BPBD East Java Prevention Team Dadang Iqwandy added that with the installation of the six new EWS, the total number of EWS owned by BPBD East Java reached 44 units, including 20 flood EWS and 24 landslide EWS.

"In addition to EWS, BPBD East Java has also installed 17 tsunami sirens," he said.

He said, the spread in almost all areas in East Java, ranging from the southern region of East Java, such as Banyuwangi, Jember, to Pacitan, as well as in the Mataram area to the Tapal kuda area, such as Pasuruan and Probolinggo.

"There are several areas that have not been installed. However, it has been installed independently by the Regency or City BPBD," he said.
