Guenther Dominasi Balapan Virtual Race At Home Challenge

JAKARTA - The second series of virtual Formula E races using the fictional circuit layout of Electric Docks on Saturday brought back the name of the BMW i Andretti team racer, Maximilian Guenther as the champion. This is the third victory of the German racer in the virtual racing series Race at Home Challenge.

Reporting from Sky Sports, Sunday, May 3, Guenther previously finished first in the Monaco test race on April 18 and the inaugural series using the Hong Kong circuit layout last week.

Guenther was not the fastest in qualifying on the 3.2km circuit. Stoffel Vandoorne of the Mercedes team proved himself consistent with starting from pole for the second time.

But Vandoorne hit the track barrier on the opening lap, knocked out of the main competition and had to settle for finishing fifth. Guenther took the opportunity of the Vandoorne incident to take the lead.

Until the last five laps, Guenther was involved in a tough competition with Mahindra Racing team rider Pascal Wehrlein, who was only 0.3 seconds behind him.

Appearing to press, Wehrlein actually made a mistake and lost control of his car at Turn 1, which allowed his German rivals to dart 10 seconds ahead.

Robin Frijns of the Envision Virgin Racing team and Nico Mueller of the Geox Dragon team took advantage of Wehrlein's mistakes to slip into second and third to finish 15 seconds after Guenther.

Wehrlein himself had to settle for finishing fourth because his car was damaged.

This virtual racing series is being held by Formula E amidst the postponement of the competition season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, this race is also one of the fundraising efforts in collaboration with UNICEF to help and protect children and families who are vulnerable to the global health crisis.

Virtual Formula E racing uses a race royale format in which the riders who are in the last position each lap are eliminated, leaving 10 riders fighting for the final position by sprinting to the finish line.

This virtual racing series uses a standard Formula E scoring system where additional points are awarded to the racer who grabs the pole position and fastest lap time. While double points will be awarded in the last race.
