Aceh asks for disaster management assistance to the UN agencies UNDP-UNICEF
BANDA ACEH - The Aceh government has asked two international institutions under the United Nations (UN) to help deal with the post-disaster of flash floods and landslides in the rencong land.
"The Aceh government has also officially submitted a request for the involvement of several international institutions," said Aceh Government Spokesperson, Muhammad MTA, in Banda Aceh, Monday, December 15, reported by ANTARA.
The two UN agencies that were asked for their involvement were the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
"The request for the involvement of international institutions is based on the consideration of the experience of the 2004 tsunami disaster, such as UNDP and UNICEF," he said.
In addition, MTA also conveyed that currently there are 77 institutions that have included 1,960 volunteers in the effort to recover the Aceh disaster, and have been recorded on the BNPB Volunteer Desk and the Aceh Post.
They are local, national and international institutions or NGOs. It is likely that the involvement of institutions and volunteers will continue to increase in this disaster response.
The presence of these institutions and volunteers, is expected to strengthen the emergency and disaster recovery work being carried out by government agencies such as the TNI, Polri, BNPP, BPBA Aceh, Basarnas, Pem. Kab/city, ormas/OKP independently and the people of Aceh.
