Mariah Carey's Secret Grunge Album Said to Be Released Next Year

JAKARTA - Mariah Carey's secret grunge album titled "Someone's Ugly Daughter" which has never been heard by the public is confirmed to be officially released next year.

The alternative record made in 1995 was a "major deviation" from the pop-R&B music style that has always been attached to the name of the singer of the hit "Fantasy".

The latest news says that Carey's record label is now planning to release "Someone's Ugly Daughter" in the second half of 2026.

This album is scheduled to arrive after a long wait for fans who are curious about the other side of the global pop diva.

"Since he leaked about the existence of the album, fans really want the album to be officially released and available on streaming services," a source said, citing The Sun, Monday, December 15.

"After years of casual conversations about what to do, everyone now agrees the album will be released in the second half of 2026," he continued.

The source added that the album has been long awaited, and fans are expected to find the wait worth it.

"This is definitely Mariah that you've never heard before," he said.

Previously, the 56-year-old singer, who is also known for the iconic song "All I Want For Christmas Is You", admitted that he still harbored hopes to release the grunge record one day.

When appearing on the Las Culturistas podcast, host Matt Rogers asked, "Can you release that grunge album?"

Carey then replied in a frustrated tone, "Yeah, right? I'm so mad because I haven't done it... but who should I release it with?"

Rogers then suggested that he release it independently using Garage Band or something. And Carey responded, "I can do it."

"It's a good album. Okay, you'll hear it. I really get life from it."

In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 in 2020, Carey also revealed that music executives had banned her from releasing the album.

"I kind of got in trouble for making this album - an alternative album - because at the time, everything was so controlled by the powers that be," he recalled. "I never really thought, 'Oh, we're going to release it.' But then I thought, I have to release it. I have to do it under a pseudonym. Let people find it and so on. But it was stopped."

The album was released in a limited edition under the band name Chick, where Carey's friend Clarissa Dane took on the role of lead vocals.

Mariah's vocals are only heard as background vocals, and she is credited under the pseudonym D. Sue.
