Malaysian floods: Number of displaced in Terengganu surges, Sarawak on alert
JAKARTA - Flooding due to high rainfall intensity is still hitting a number of areas in Malaysia with the number of refugees in Terengganu increasing today, Monday, December 15.
Bernama reported that 299 people from 78 families are currently in evacuation centers in Terengganu. The number of refugees rose from 53 people from 18 families last night.
The Secretariat of the Terengganu State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) said the worst district affected by the flood was in Kemaman, with 108 people displaced in tents at the Bukit Kuang Civic Council.

Based on the latest monitoring, the Besut River sluice gate on the Keruak Bridge in Terengganu is now above the safe limit.

Things are different in Sarawak with the number of refugees decreasing to 18 people in two evacuation centers in Miri as of this afternoon.

JPBN Sarawak reported that the evacuation location at the Suai National School, Niah now accommodates 10 people, down from 21 people.

Meanwhile, the Miri Red Crescent Council Center is still accommodating four flood refugees and four people affected by landslides.
