BMKG: Beware of Potential Heavy Rain in South Java at the Weekend
JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appeals to the public in the southern Central Java region, especially Cilacap Regency, Banyumas, and its surroundings to be aware of heavy rains that may occur this weekend.
"For the next three days, the potential for rain is still in the light category. However, from Friday (19/12) to the weekend, there is the potential for moderate to heavy rain," said Head of the Data Service and Information Dissemination Team of the BMKG, Tunggul Wulung Cilacap Meteorological Station, Teguh Wardoyo, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, December 15.
According to him, the air temperature of Cilacap and its surroundings is estimated to range from 26-33 degrees Celsius with a humidity of 61-95 percent.
He said the dominant wind movement was from the west with a speed of 5-20 kilometers per hour.
"The dynamics of the atmosphere today, there is a tropical cyclone Bakung in the Indian Ocean southwest of Lampung and a tropical cyclone 93S seed in the Indian Ocean south of East Java," he said.
According to him, the appearance of the Bakung tropical cyclone and the 93S cyclone seeds also affect the weather conditions in the southern Central Java region in the next three days.
Regarding the Bakung tropical cyclone, he said the cyclone, which is currently around 11.1 degrees south latitude and 91.0 degrees east longitude, was previously a 91S cyclone seed that had been growing since December 12, 2025.
BMKG recorded the maximum wind speed around the cyclone system reaching 50 knots or about 95 kilometers per hour, with a minimum air pressure of around 988 hPa, so it falls into the category of two. However, in the next 24 hours the cyclone is expected to weaken.
"The maximum wind speed of the tropical cyclone Bakung is predicted to decrease to category one and move east, away from the Indonesian region," he said.
Meanwhile, the tropical cyclone 93S seed, he said, was observed at a position of about 12.1 degrees south latitude and 113.2 degrees east longitude with a maximum wind speed of about 20 knots and a minimum air pressure of 1004 hPa.

BMKG estimates that the cyclone has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours.
"Nevertheless, the public is urged to remain vigilant against the potential for extreme weather, especially heavy rain accompanied by strong winds and high waves in the waters of southern Java this weekend," said Teguh.
