Bondi Beach Shooting Kills 12, Australian PM: It Breaks Our Nation's Soul

JAKARTA - Australian Prime Minister (PM) Anthony Albanese expressed his condolences to the 12 victims of the mass shooting on Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia, Sunday, December 14.

"Australian compatriots, I say tonight that there are nights that tear the soul of our nation," Albanese said, quoted by News.com.au, Sunday, December 14.

Albanese asked all elements of society and the government to strengthen each other and not be easily provoked by hoaxes that have the potential to divide Australia.

"In this darkness, we must be the light for each other, clinging to the true character of the country we love," Albanese said.

"Australia is stronger than the cowards who attacked innocent people today, Australia is braver than those who tried to scare us," he continued.

"Australia will never give in to division, violence or hate, we will see justice be served, and we will get through this together," Albanese said.

The mass shooting occurred at a Jewish Hanukkah event just before 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 14.

Naveed Akram, 24, was confirmed as one of the two perpetrators who carried out this shooting.

Akram after committing the action was shot dead by the police. Meanwhile, another perpetrator shot by the officers is in critical condition in treatment.

At least 12 people were killed in this incident, including a police officer and one of the shooters.

Meanwhile, 25 injured people have been taken to hospitals in Sydney, including one to the Sydney Children's Hospital. Among the injured were two police officers.
