Victims of Disaster in Agam West Sumatra Need a Suitable House, DPR Asks the Government to Accelerate Housing Development

Member of Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives Ade Rezki Pratama emphasized that the most urgent need for residents affected by floods and landslides in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, is a decent dwelling. Many residents lost their homes after their houses were severely damaged and destroyed by the disaster.

"What is needed by disaster-affected people is housing (houses) and infrastructure repairs. They have nothing else, houses were destroyed by floods and landslides," said Ade Rezki Pratama in his statement, Sunday, December 14.

Ade said that currently the data collection process is still being carried out to ensure the housing needs for affected residents. A number of areas that are priority for house construction are in Palembayan District, Maninjau area, and other areas that are quite severely affected.

"Currently we are compiling the housing that will be built in Pelembayan, Maninjau, and several other areas affected by the disaster. We are still waiting for accurate data," he said.

In addition to physical needs in the form of houses and infrastructure, Ade highlighted the psychological impact experienced by the victims. According to him, post-disaster trauma needs to be dealt with seriously so that residents can return to normal activities.

"There is trauma experienced by affected people. Kiita has asked the Minister of Health to carry out recovery of the trauma experienced by the community, refugees and we are also assisted by IDI, military doctors, police doctors," said the Gerindra Party politician.

Ade added that the conditions on the ground are now improving compared to two weeks ago. A number of areas that had been isolated can now be reached, as access to roads that were closed by landslides and floods were reopened.

"Alhamdulilah, we have been able to visit isolated areas. Until today, we continue to distribute assistance in the form of basic necessities, clothing, blankets, and medicines," said Ade.

Previously, Member of Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives Irma Suryani also asked the government to immediately build habitable houses for flood and landslide victims in a number of areas, including Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
