According to Pasang, it has the potential to submerge the pond in East Kalimantan, BMKG urges managers to prepare for anticipation
KALTIM - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Balikpapan stated that the high tide in the coastal areas of East Kalimantan (Kaltim) reached 2.6-2.8 meters. This condition has the potential to submerge the ponds, so that pond managers are urged to be vigilant.
"High tide can cause a number of things, such as causing flash floods, submerged ponds, and a number of other impacts," said the Coordinator for Data and Information of the BMKG Class I Station Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan, Diyan Novrida in Balikpapan, quoted by ANTARA on Sunday, December 14.
The areas that experience high tides include the waters of Balikpapan, with the highest tide expected to occur on December 20, 2025 with a height of 2.8 meters at 18.00 WITA. The lowest predicted tide is 0.5 meters on December 20, at 11.00 and 12.00 WITA.
Meanwhile, in the waters of Balikpapan, at least five areas are directly affected by the tides, namely Samboja and Samboja Barat (Kabupaten Kutai Kartanegara), Balikpapan, North Penajam Paser Regency, and Paser Regency.
In these four coastal areas, there are still many ponds that are still active, so when the tide comes, it is feared that the residents' cultivation, such as shrimp, fish, and crabs, could be lost due to the sea currents.

"High tide can also interfere with loading and unloading activities at the port, social activities in coastal areas, and even seawater can enter residential areas near the beach, including endangering children who play on the beach," said Diyan.
Early warnings were also given to residents in a number of other coastal areas, such as the mouth of the Berau River and its surroundings, with a maximum tide of 2.6 meters on December 20, at 20.00 Wita, the lowest tide of 0.5 meters on December 19, at 02.00 WITA.
In this area there is a large port or Tanjung Redeb Port, namely a river port that is directly affected by the tides, then a number of active ponds, and other economic activities in coastal areas, so that all parties are urged to always be vigilant.
Other areas such as the estuary of the Mahakam River (Nubi Island), Kutai Kartanegara Regency, the highest tide is estimated to occur on December 20, 2025 with a height of 2.7 meters at 18.00 Wita, while the lowest tide is 0.6 meters on December 20 at 12.00 WITA.
