Jakarta Hit by Rob to Spitting Thunder, Pramono: Don't Blame the Weather
JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung emphasized that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government routinely conveys early warnings about the potential for extreme weather to the public.
Pramono assessed that joint anticipation was much more important as a mitigation step. So, Pramono did not want to just blame natural phenomena for the hydro-meteorological disasters that occurred in Jakarta some time ago.
Pramono made the statement when asked to respond to a series of disaster incidents due to extreme weather that occurred in Jakarta in recent weeks, such as flash floods, tornadoes, and fallen trees in a number of points.
"Yes, we always actually convey to the public about extreme weather. But let's not blame extreme weather, we all have to anticipate," said Pramono in Setiabudi, South Jakarta, Sunday, December 14.
Pramono then explained several phenomena that trigger meteorological hydrometeorological phenomena that have been predicted and informed long ago, but it turns out that not all people know this information.
"Like handling the rob then, 15 days ago we had announced it. Including actually the tornado yesterday that happened in Ancol, we had announced it too. But, what is it, the public has not fully used that information," he said.
However, it is clear that Pramono has denied that efforts to handle the impact of bad weather continue to be carried out quickly by officers in the field.
"But thank God, both yesterday's tornado and Rob, and what, high weather, high rain, yes, there were some spots where flooding occurred, there were also trees that fell, such as yesterday near the Sunda Kelapa Mosque. But we will immediately handle it well," said Pramono.
In recent weeks, the coastal areas north of Jakarta have reportedly been experiencing flash floods again. The DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded dozens of RTs in North Jakarta flooded by sea water due to flash floods, especially in early December 2025.
Air rob had entered a number of roads and settlements with varying heights, but most of the puddles were said to have shrunk or receded after several hours.
BPBD associates this flood with the phenomenon of maximum tide which coincides with the full moon phase and perigee (supermoon), which increases the sea level on the northern coast. BMKG has also issued an early warning of coastal flooding (rob) since the beginning of the month, considering that the potential weather has been predicted.
In addition to rob, a tornado hit the Ancol area, North Jakarta on Friday, December 12. The incident caused a number of trees to fall and the roof of a tent to collapse in the tourist area.
Although the incident lasted a short time, the impact was able to hinder access to the road and required quick handling by officers. There were no reports of casualties in the incident.
