Being A Manipulative Pilot on Penerbangan Terakhir, Jerome Kurnia Conducted Research Directly with Real Captain

JAKARTA - Actor Jerome Kurnia challenges his acting skills once again with the role of Captain Deva in the latest VMS film, "Penerbangan Terakhir."

Known for his portrayals of bad boys and sad boys, this time Jerome must immerse himself in the role of a senior pilot with a manipulative side beneath his authority. At a press conference in South Jakarta,

Jerome shared the lengthy process of developing the character, whom director Beni Setiawan called "even more of a badass than Aris."

Jerome admitted that the biggest challenge in playing Captain Deva wasn't just the technical aspects of flying the plane, but also capturing the mindset and gestures of a captain.

He didn't rely on references from Hollywood pilot films, but instead observed real-life people.

"I always start from the script, but I definitely add other references, mostly from everyday people," Jerome said in South Jakarta recently.

VMS facilitated the actors with workshops with active pilots. Jerome used this opportunity to delve deeper into the hierarchy and psychology of the cockpit.

He discussed many aspects of the stereotype of a captain, how much authority they hold, and how a captain walks and speaks to the crew and Air Traffic Controller (ATC).

"I gained a lot of valuable insights. For example, on a plane, the Captain is the highest. What you do is up to the Captain. To put it bluntly," Jerome said.

This helped him build the confidence that characterizes his character Deva when he wears his uniform.

Penerbangan Terakhir will showcase a side of Jerome Kurnia that audiences have never seen before. With in-depth research and complex character transformations, Jerome is ready to take audiences on a flight in an emotional drama starting January 15, 2026.
